Dredging Where Precision Matters Most

Environmental dredging demands more than just removing sediment — it requires careful planning, rigorous controls and thorough documentation to protect surrounding ecosystems, water quality and adjacent infrastructure.

Nautique Dredging & Civil has extensive experience operating in Queensland's most sensitive waterway environments. From stormwater outfall clearing to silt removal in ecologically significant areas, our team understands the additional planning, compliance and care that environmental works require.

Our Approach

Environmental Management & Compliance

Operating in sensitive waterways requires disciplined environmental management at every stage. Our standard approach includes the following controls as a minimum.

01

Turbidity Monitoring

Continuous or scheduled turbidity monitoring throughout dredging operations, with trigger levels set in the environmental management plan.

02

Silt Curtaining

Deployment of containment curtains to minimise sediment plume migration into adjacent sensitive areas during active works.

03

SWMS & JSA Documentation

Site-specific Safe Work Method Statements and Job Safety Analyses prepared and reviewed prior to mobilisation.

04

Responsible Disposal

All dredged material managed under an approved disposal or beneficial reuse strategy with full documentation.

05

Stakeholder Coordination

Clear communication with environmental consultants, approving authorities and adjacent landowners throughout the project lifecycle.

06

Completion Reporting

Full project documentation provided on completion — monitoring data, disposal records, as-constructed survey and photographic records.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes environmental dredging different from standard dredging?
Environmental dredging refers to works carried out in ecologically sensitive or regulated areas where additional controls are required to protect water quality, habitat and surrounding infrastructure. It typically involves more detailed planning, stricter turbidity limits, formal monitoring programs and thorough documentation.
What approvals are required for environmental dredging in Queensland?
Works in tidal or navigable waterways generally require notification to or approval from Maritime Safety Queensland. Depending on the location and scope, a development permit, coastal management permit or environmental authority conditions may also apply. Nautique can assist with the approval process.
How do you manage turbidity during dredging operations?
We implement turbidity monitoring at agreed reference and impact points with trigger action levels set in the environmental management plan. If turbidity rises above trigger levels, works are paused and assessed before resuming. Silt curtains are deployed where required.
Can you work in areas with seagrass, mangroves or other sensitive habitat?
Yes, with appropriate planning and controls. Works near sensitive habitat require additional care around methodology, timing, equipment selection and monitoring. We work with environmental consultants and approving authorities to develop a compliant methodology.
Do you work alongside environmental consultants?
Yes — we regularly operate as the dredging contractor on projects managed by environmental consultants. We are experienced at working within approved environmental management plans and can contribute to methodology development at the planning stage.
